Orchestra's Game Compilation Vol.1

{ Présentation }

Après 4 ans de mutisme et un premier volume qui reçut un succès surprenant
(+ de 10.000 téléchargements) certains se diront "Enfin !" quand d'autres se
demanderont à quoi correspondent mes compilations.

Les { Orchestra's Game Compilation } sont des regroupements de compositions
uniquement orchestrales; parfois symphoniques, parfois philharmoniques,
elles visent à rendre hommage aux meilleurs compositeurs issus de l'industrie
du jeu vidéo. Aujourd'hui, ce média est devenu une plateforme de création
à part entière et les budgets attribués pour la réalisation de ceux-ci sont de
plus en plus importants (on parle de 30 millions de dollars pour les titres
les plus ambitieux),et il n'est plus rare de voir émerger des bandes originales
qui n'ont plus rien à envier à celles de l'industrie du cinéma.

{ Plus de Liberté pour plus de créativité ? }

Trop méconnus, ces travaux méritent pourtant une meilleure considération.
Les moyens employés sont les memes que ceux utilisés dans le cinéma,
seules les méthodes et logiques utilisées changent.
Avec celles-ci, les producteurs et réalisateurs invitent plus encore
les compositeurs à s'épanouir dans leurs imaginaires.

La ou le cinéma impose majoritairement aux compositeurs d'écrire sur les images,
 le jeu vidéo lui, les invite à composer indépendamment de celles-ci.
Dans la pratique, après avoir défini ensemble des directives émotionnelles,
les compositeurs les plus talentueux (souvent japonais) écrivent,
et les scénaristes et programmeurs adaptent les images aux compositions.

Le travail de mise en scène des jeux vidéo actuels prenant un aspect
de plus en plus dramatique et adulte, la nécessité de voir apparaitre
une élaboration sonore élevant la gravité des titres les plus scénarisés,
entre aujourd'hui dans une logique riche en créativité.
Je vous propose donc deux vidéos pour illustrer mes propos,
et pour ce faire, j'ai choisi la saga qui à ouvert le jeu vidéo à la musique instrumentale,
saga qui reste toujours aujourd'hui la référence incontestable du genre :

Et moi là-dedans, je pioche dans mes quelques 1500 OST,
Cherche la crème des compositions, trouve une harmonie, une osmose
entre les différents titres, modifie quelques paramètres sonores afin de mettre
en valeur certains passages, fait divers mixages,
réalise les jaquettes (front, back et tranches), et vous propose le tout sur
deux CD de 76 Minutes après quelques dizaines d'heures de casse-têtes
et d'écoutes intensives

Pourquoi faire cela ? Pour participer à un éveil artistique qui je le sais,
trouvera écho dans les années qui viennent.

Le 1er volume sera la réédition de celle de 2003.
Nouvelles pistes, orchestrations différentes etc ...
Les 2 volumes seront disponibles courant juillet.

Orchestra's Game Compilation Vol.1

{Présentation}

After 4 years of silence, and a first volume that get a surprising success
( more than 10.000 Downloads) some will says "At last !" when others
will ask what are my compilations about.

The {Orchestra's game compilation} are an only orchestral compositions gathering
; sometimes symphonics, sometimes philharmonics, they aim to pay
tribute to the best composers originally from the video game industry.
Today , this media has become a full-fledged creation platform, and the
budgets assigned to the realisations of these, are increasingly important
(About 30 milions dollars to the more ambitious titles), and it's not rare anymore
to see Soundtracks, that has no reason to envy the cinema's industry ones,
come to the fore.

{More Freedom for more creativity}.

Too unrecognized, these works yet deserve a better consideration.
The ways used, are the same of those used in the cinema,
only the methods and logics (used) change.

With these, the producers and directors, invite the composers to
flourishing in their imaginaries further more.

Where the cinema, by a majority, impose to composers to write on the the images,
the video game, it, invite them to compose independently of these.
In practice, after to have defined emotionals directives together,
the most talented composers (often japanese) write, and the screenwriters
and programers adapt the images to the composition.

The direction work on actual video games taking an increasingly dramatic and adult
aspect, the necessity to see appear a sound elaboration increasing
the seriousness of the most scenarised titles enter today in a logic full of creativity .
So, I propose you two videos so as to illustrate my talks,
And with that aim, I chose the saga which has opened the video game to
the instrumental music, saga which is still today the incontestable reference of the genre:

And I in all of this, dig up in my collection of about 1500 OST,
look for the best compilation, find an harmony, an osmosis between the differents tracks,
edit some sounds parameters in order to emphasize some parts, do miscellaneous mix,
create covers (front, back and sides), and offer the whole to you on 2 CD's of 76 min,
 after around ten hours of brain-teasers and intensives listenings.

Why to do this ? To participate to an artistic rise that I know,
will find an echo in the next years.

Candie’s have announced that Hayden Panettiere is staying on as the face of their fall winter 2008/09 advertising campaign that will be integrated with the release of her debut single, Wake Up Call.

In her second season (her first was spring summer 2008) as the face of the youth brand, the cross promotion continues into Hayden’s music video for Wake Up Call, which was style exclusively by Candie’s apparel, footwear and accessories. So it comes as no surprise that clips from the music video will be used in Candie’s television commercials.

“The concept of my video is to give a guy who doesn’t treat his girlfriend well a wake up call and show him all the different aspects of a woman’s personality. Candie’s is the perfect fit because their styles are diverse and benefit the video as they show off all of the different sides of my character in the video,” Hayden said in a release.

“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Hayden and collaborate with her during this exciting time in her career as she debuts “Wake Up Call”,” Dari Marder, Chief Marking Officer of Candie’s added. “Hayden is the ideal Candie’s girl, she is what Hollywood calls a triple threat as she currently has a successful television and film career and is now poised to become a powerful recording artist. ”

The convenient partnership also extended into a print campaign which see’s Hayden looking “sexy and sweet” in a variety of vignettes, photographed by Giuliano Bekor

My Uncle Bob With His Steel Guitar

I'm not sure when this photo was taken.  It was his favorite instrument to play.  Gotta love that shirt, huh?  Lol.  He would go to Nashville and help write songs with Hank Snow (not Hank Snow Jr., thank goodness) and his guitar player, plus Wilf Carter.  He jammed with John Fogerty.  He taught and he played and he wrote.  He loved music.  And obviously was very good at it.  But he never asked for anything. Just the pleasure of being involved with music was what made his heart thump.

I tried and tried to scan the obituary so that you could read it plainly, but I've never scanned a newspaper article direct.  I will type this out below the photo so that you can know a bit more about my Uncle Bob.....and of a request that I have to make of you all.

Uncle Bob's Obituary and Book of Condolences

WHITING, Robert Arthur "Bob"------80, Windsor (Nova Scotia, Canada), formerly of Ste. Croix, Hants Co., passed away Monday July 7, 2008 in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax (Nova Scotia, Canada) with family by his side, after a five-month illness.  Born in Ste. Croix on October 7, 1927, he was the son of the late Arthur and Marie (DeMont) Whiting.  Bob was a much-envied musician, being accomplished on many instruments, and played in a number of bands in Nova Scotia, Ontario, and the United States.  He always had time to teach or correct those not quite so talented.  He also composed many songs.  Bob loved to walk in the woods, and would be the first one out picking mayflowers for special people.  He also made pickles every year and shared them with family and friends.  Bob was loved by many and will be sadly missed.  He spent years with the utilities---Maritime Tel and Tel, Nova Scotia Light and Power, and retired from Minas Basin Pulp and Power.  [Then it mentions people he is survived by and predeceased by].  Following Bob's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service.  Cremation has taken place under the care of Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home.  There will be a graveside service for friends and family at 3pm Sunday, July 13 in Ste. Croix Cemetary, Ste. REQUEST

Many of you have been reading about what had been happening with my Uncle for the past 5 months.  I would so appreciate it, along with my family, if you would take the time to sign the online book of condolence.  You can say that you only know about Bob through his niece, Sandy "MacMillan" Webster, but you wish to express your wishes to his family. Please do not mention the name of VOX or my Username.  I do not want everyone who reads the condolences to invade my private place on the internet.  Thank you for that.  Some of you have already expressed yourselves to me here on VOX, but this online book will be seen by my family and then printed out afterwards by the funeral home for them.  It appears that the condolences are collected throughout the day, and then published all at once, each day, at around midnight.  Mine is not showing up yet, as I just did it this morning, but John Fogerty already has his showing (if you are interested in reading it).  When you go to the site, click on "Obituaries", then fill in the name "Whiting" when the form asks for information.  That is all you will need.  Bob's name is the only Whiting that will show up for July, 2008...and click on that.  The obituary will be there, plus all the condolences that went through last night.  Then you have a form to fill out if you care to write one yourself.  I would love it so much if you would.  And check back each day after midnight Atlantic time because I believe there will be many, when it becomes known that Bob has passed on, and maybe you will see a name or two that you recognize (other than John Fogerty's).  Thanks so much, guys!  Like I've said many times, our VOX family really does seem like family....we stand by one another.  It's such a comforting notion when you think of how hard-core and untruthful so many people are that use the internet.  Thanks for being my friends.

For anyone who has followed the story of my Uncle, I just wanted to let you know that he passed on today at 1:30pm Atlantic time.  He was up and down for all these months....getting over one thing to have another complication take place.  So much for an older man to have to endure.  I believe that he was a special case for the doctors and staff simply because 1. all this suffering was caused by one of their own by her incompetent surgical skills and unethical conduct regarding it, and 2. because every time they thought he couldn't possibly withstand another procedure or operation, he kept LIVING.  He was Superman!  Lol.  He drew a lot of attention, and when anything was occuring, they immediately were calling in specialists for that particular situation.  They had never seen such damage done to someone by a surgeon, and they did not expect him to make it past the first week when he first arrived from the little county hospital to the city where the GOOD doctors are!  But he just would not die, even when his kidneys shut down....zap, they started working a little again and they thought that after 1-2 months of dialysis they would be fine.  His lung collasped, blood clots in his other lung, body cavity filled with blood and pus, bile leaking from the duct and eating away at his stomach, blood clots in his legs, depression, oh...I can't even remember all the complications that happened to the poor man.  And much pain, of course.  Shunts and tubes and wires and injuries.  But with all these incidents that happened within his body, all due to one simple but extremely botched surgery, he made it.  Even when the surgeons didn't think he had the strength to make it through yet a third or fourth surgery....he always did.  Like I said....he was Superman!  They were amazed, and openly admitted that they never expected this type of severe damage in an older man to be survivable.  Surprise!!  And he held on for 5 or 6 months.  A few days ago, he winked at the doctor and said, "I'm getting better", as he was sitting up in a chair.  Then he got an infection.  His kidneys started shutting down again, another clot in a lung, and his lungs were filling up with water.  The doctor phoned today to let us know that a shunt was gong to be placed in Uncle Bob's lung to help the fluid drain, but he did not expect him to survive.  He wanted my other Uncle (who has been the liason for the whole family this entire time) to get the family to come into the hospital today.  It was time.  And my poor dad.....who has been a good friend with Uncle Bob for over 50 years (as my parents just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last week!!) couldn't go inside the hospital to say his good-byes.  Because where do you get sick?  In the hospital, of course.  He has caught a case of Shingles, so had to wait outside in the car while other family members went in to say their farewells.  And, like I said, he passed on at 1:30pm Atlantic time July 7, 2008.  Wow, he sure put up a fight.  I had just told my mum a few days ago that if that were me in the hospital.....even with all the family support, including my two wonderful children....I probably would have given up long before this just from sheer exhaustion.  And Uncle Bob is twice my age!

There is a celebration in heaven now.  He is with Gram (his mother), his father (who passed on when my Aunts and Uncles were just kids themselves), his own son, his brother, his sister (who just passed away a few months ago from cancer), and my cousin Katrina (who walked across the highway one foggy night when she was in her early 20's, and a car hit her at full speed because he just did not see her).  And I am sure there are many others that I don't know.  Maybe they are jamming up there!  *smile*

Speaking of jamming, I know that John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival will want to be at the funeral if he possibly can.  This was his friend.  But he is putting on concert with The Eagles just a few hour's drive from here....I'm not sure of the date.  I hope he can make it.  I think probably the jamming sessions have ended now.  It just wouldn't be the same without Uncle Bob there.

CCR: Down On The Corner & Fortunate Son (1969)

CCR in 1969.  John Fogerty is, of course, the singer.  No more jam sessions in my Aunt's basement with my Uncle Bob now and the rest of my family.  He just lost his friend.  I wanted to pick out a song by CCR that had a happy, jam-type atmosphere.  I'm sure they all played this at one point or another....smiling, drinking sodas, eating, talking, and just plain having fun for hours.  He's going to miss my Uncle Bob.

John Fogerty: Bad Moon Rising (2008)

And this is John as we know him now.  We all age, and he is no longer the cute young man talking with my dad when my silly older sister (in the early 1970's) tripped going up our backsteps into the house...and he made a joke about it.  We are all older and wiser and seen a lot more of life....but we sometimes still trip over tings.  Lol.  This was recorded in February, 2008.....so this is John as he jams with my family in a basement these days whenever he is in the area....even though he still tours extensively.  He is truly a decent man and, as far as I know, has always been. Never a harsh or vulgar word.  I'm just showing this video to allow you to realize the age group that he is in now...and how he enjoys jamming informally with my family as we all continued to age and mature.

Black Rock Shooter (ブラック★ロックシューター)

I really like all of the Hatsune Miku / Vocaloid 2 creations that I run into on NicoDouga. This video has been really popular for a while, inspiring tons and tons of people trying their hand at singing the lyrics. So far, this one (in my humble, humble opinion) has been the most impressive one!  An amazing 127 people singing in unison...

If you're curious about the original artist, you can check his website here. No idea if this is supposed to become a film of its own, but here's hoping.  I've been a fan of this guy's work for years!
